Artist Peter Poulet was commissioned by Health Infrastructure to create the 45-metre long, four-metre high artwork to cover three walls in the double-storey entry. "I am thrilled that Peter will be an artist-in-residence for four weeks to produce a masterpiece that will create a welcoming environment for patients, visitors and communities for many years to come," Brigette Uren, Health Infrastructure arts program director, said. "Integrating art into our health facilities is important. Research proves that art placed in the context of health settings promotes healing and provides a better experience for patients and visitors."
The work will be one of NSW Health's largest wall paintings ever created "in situ" and will be one of the largest public artworks in the Hunter Valley.
Mr Poulet was commissioned following a national tender process where his proposal was selected from more than 40 artists. He planned to interpret community insights, stories and anecdotes for the abstract wall painting to ensure it was "uniquely Maitland"
